Detailed Admission Guide

Eligibility Criteria

1. Minimum 70% in Intermediate / A-Level / HSD with an IBCC equivalency for both SSC & HSSC.

2. Minimum of "passing marks" in the National MDCAT held by Pakistan Medical Commission.

3. Proof of father/mother working abroad to be able to apply as an overseas Pakistani.

The admission requirements usually change every year. In the past, overseas students were exempted from giving the locally held MDCAT examination and were able to give the SAT II instead. However, this exemption has been withdrawn by Pakistan Medical Commission, and CollegeBoard has now decided to stop the provision of the SAT II subject tests regardless. Therefore, all students will now have to sit the National MDCAT beginning from the 2021-2022 session.

Documents Required

  • GCSE / Grade 9-10 results alongside IBCC equivalency of SSC
  • A-Level / Grade 11-12 results alongside IBCC equivalency of HSSC
  • NICOP and Passport scan of the candidate
  • NICOP and Passport scan of the father
  • Passport-size photograph of the candidate
  • National MDCAT score report
  • Evidence of father/mother working abroad (letter issued from employer)
  • Application fee payment (in the form of pay order/demand draft in PKR)
Admission Timeline

Since DIMC is a constituent college of DUHS, it is considered a government college. Therefore, admissions to government colleges are always completed before those of private colleges. You will receive an admission offer to DIMC before any private college, so it is important to keep this in mind before making college decisions.

The admission process will always begin after the completion of the National MDCAT / any other provincial examination for medical and dental colleges. Shortly after admissions for open-merit seats at other government medical colleges in Karachi open, the admission to the "Overseas Category" will open under the assigned admitting university of Karachi (usually DUHS or JSMU). Students interested in DIMC should apply through the "Overseas Category". Students will be given approximately 07 days to complete their application via the admitting university; otherwise, they will be ineligible for application. You may apply to the following colleges via the admitting university of Karachi, as an overseas student:
  • Dow Medical College (DUHS)
  • Dow Dental College (DUHS)
  • Dow International Medical College (DUHS)
  • Dow International Dental College (DUHS)
  • Sindh Medical College (JSMU)
  • Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC)
Students can apply to all of the colleges listed above in accordance with priority, at no additional cost. Keep in mind that students will usually receive an admission offer to their #1 priority only, so choose your priority list wisely, as you cannot change it after the submission of your application.

All applications are completed and processed within a week of the application deadline. Usually, students receive their admission decision within 1-2 weeks of the application deadline, in case there are no delays throughout the process. In my personal experience, I received an admission offer at DIMC after 6 days of the application deadline. Interviews aren't held at government colleges, so you will directly receive an admission decision once all applications have been processed and compiled.

In case of an admission offer, you will be given 03 days to deposit the entire fee for Year 1. The following fees must be paid within 03 days of the receipt of your admission offer:
  • Admission fee (PKR 50,000 to be paid in USD equivalent as per exchange rate)
  • Annual tuition fee ($17,000 at DIMC or DMC)
  • Hostel fee, in case you opt for hostel accommodation ($1,000 at DIMC)
If you do not pay your fees within 03 days, you carry the risk of being removed from the merit list. In some cases, they can allow an extension of payment, but I would recommend communicating directly with DIMC beforehand, in case you are unable to pay the fees within their deadline).

If you are aiming for a private college, then keep in mind that DIMC's admission process will be concluded before theirs start. Therefore, if you receive an acceptance from DIMC, you will either have to abandon your DIMC admittance or abandon the private college you are aiming for.

Admission for Local Students / non-Overseas Students at DIMC

Students from Pakistan and abroad can apply to DIMC. However, both categories would follow a separate admission procedure. In the case of local students (who have studied Intermediate/A-Levels in Karachi), they will have to wait for DUHS to announce the admission of the "Dow Overseas Sponsored Category", in which students who have studied in Pakistan are eligible to apply. The advertisement for the DOS category is usually released after the advertisement for the "Overseas Category". Students interested in applying for DOS will need to visit Dow Medical College with their original documents and apply directly (not via the admitting university for Karachi). Further details are usually listed in the advertisement. Students admitted under the DOS category will pay a lower tuition fee than the "Overseas Category".
